- 1. Education to Honours Degree standard or higher in a biological or behavioural science is required, including appropriate elements of zoology, physiology, psychology, clinical techniques and research methods.
- 2. Experiential requirements are based on evidence of significant experience of working under the supervision of several CCABs in a clinical setting, through submission of a case book demonstrating achievement of the three levels of supervised experience.
Such individuals must also be regularly seeing cases as a professional active in the area and fulfill the annual requirements for maintaining certification including provision of an annual summary of ongoing experience of clinical work and completion of appropriate continuing professional education. In addition, they must maintain their professional indemnity insurance at an adequate level and sufficient to meet any liabilities which might arise as a result of their professional practice.

Probationary ASAB clinical animal behaviourists (Probationary CAB)
For an individual to be recognised as a probationary ASAB clinical animal behaviourist they must have successfully completed a formally validated course of study at an institute recognised by ASAB under its validation scheme and graduated with a minimum of a 2:1 Honours degree standard overall (or equivalent) and at least a 2:2 pass for each of the required academic elements (on first reassessment, if necessary). In addition they must register with the Accreditation Committee. An annual registration fee of £25 must be paid by all those wishing to register or maintain their registration. A copy of the validated institutions degree certificate or other relevant documentation must also be submitted at this time. Registration will lapse five years after the time of graduation. Assistant ASAB clinical animal behaviourist (Assistant CAB)
Upon successful completion of the requirements for level 1 of supervised experience, and progression to level 2, those undergoing supervised experience can register with the Accreditation Committee to be recognised as an assistant ASAB clinical animal behaviourist. To enter the register, such individuals must demonstrate that they have met the academic requirement of ASAB certification, eg through completion of a validated course of study, and have been assessed as having achieved level 1 supervised experience. Honorary ASAB clinical animal behaviourist (Honorary CAB)
The Accreditation Committee has agreed that individuals who have previously achieved ASAB certification as clinical animal behaviourists and who are continuing to work professionally in fields related to the treatment of behavioural disorders in animals, but who are not presently actively seeing cases, can register to be recognised as honorary ASAB clinical animal behaviorists.
Such individuals must also fulfill the annual CPD requirements for maintaining certification. An annual registration fee of £25 must be paid by all those wishing to register or maintain their registration. A copy of those registered can be found here.
