The ASAB Newsletter is distributed free to all ASAB members. There are three issues per year, usually produced in Winter, Summer and Autumn.

The Newsletter contains information about conferences organized either by ASAB itself or by other organizations, and about new publications, equipment, jobs and studentships - in fact information about anything likely to be of interest to ASAB members. It also publishes reviews, members' letters and a wide variety of articles on topics relevant to those who teach or conduct research in animal behaviour.

E-newsletter

ASAB is increasingly using electronic means of disseminating information to members. In keeping with this trend, since May 2006, the Newsletter has been distribited in electronic form whenever possible. Members will receive a copy of the Newsletter by email, or alternatively, it can be downloaded and printed. If you have not received copies of the e-Newsletter, please contact the Newsletter Editor and we will ensure your email address is on the circulation list.

This system offers a number of advantages - members should receive the Newsletter much more promptly and the savings on printing and distribution can be put towards other activities of the Society, such as conference organization or funding grants.

Contributions

If you have any queries about the Newsletter or a future contribution you wish to discuss, please contact the Newsletter Editor.

Potential contributions could include:

  1. Offers to write the View from the Conference for forthcoming ASAB meetings.
  2. Details of a change of job, address or name for the Members' News section. This aims to provide information about what is happening to other ASAB members and enable ASAB members to let others know that, for example, they are moving to a new job or, because of a change in marital status, have changed the name that will appear on their publications.
  3. News of the death of anyone you know who has made a significant contribution to the field of animal behaviour. It often takes some time before such news filters through otherwise. Offers to write obituaries (or suggestions as to who might do so) are also welcome.
  4. Short articles on anything that might be of interest to other ASAB members.
  5. A letter, should you wish to air your views on any relevant topic.
  6. A short report on any project or workshop funded by ASAB. The report may include photos, graphs or tables but should not be longer than one page of A4.
  7. Details of web pages or electronic mailing lists of interest to other ASAB members.
  8. Advertisements for jobs and studentships.
  9. Ideas for things likely to interest ASAB members.
  10. Interesting photos taken at the previous ASAB conference.
  11. Cartoons relevant to ASAB or animal behaviour in general. If you do not wish to send the original artwork until it has been decided whether or not it will be published, a photocopy for consideration is fine. Even better, email an electronic copy.

Copy should be submitted in electronic form if at all possible, either as an email attachment or on CD. Any illustrations should be sent in electronic format by email or on CD. If this is not possible, they should be sent as camera-ready copy.

Please note that the Newsletter Editor is not the person to contact about your membership subscription, change of address for delivery of Animal Behaviour or the Newsletter, lack of delivery of the journal or the Newsletter, etc. These matters should all be referred to the ASAB Membership Secretary.
